Rockstar Games confirmed on 15 October that the French electronic duo Justice composed the original score for Grand Theft Auto VI. The studio also released the duo's new single "Flower in a Hurricane", with vocals from Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.
The track soundtracks the game's official launch trailer, a 90-second clip published by Rockstar that follows co-protagonists Lucia and Jason through the streets of Vice City. Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on 19 November.
Billboard reported that the confirmation settled fan speculation about the music used in the Extended Look trailer released in August. Justice previously worked with Tame Impala on "Neverender", a Grammy-winning collaboration from the duo's album Hyperdrama that topped Billboard's alternative airplay chart.
"Flower in a Hurricane" will also appear on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, a 34-track collection of original music written for the game. Nine songs have been revealed so far, among them Travis Scott's "RHYNO", Morgan Wallen's "Last Thing You Need", Keith Richards' "Bright Lights, Big City", Cardi B's "Don't Chart" and Fuerza Regida's "Suzuki".
Rolling Stone wrote that the three guest vocalists trade verses on the track, which it described as a modern take on the sound of the Eighties-set Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The magazine also flagged its resemblance to Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing", while noting that Mark Knopfler is not among the 11 credited songwriters.
Rockstar has also confirmed six in-game radio stations, hosted by Bad Bunny, Lana Del Rey, Robyn, Trick Daddy and Trina, Burna Boy with DJ Palms Trax, and Slayer's Kerry King and Tom Araya. NME reported that players will be able to listen to radio and on-demand podcasts on foot through headphones and earbuds connected to smartphones, a first for the series. The stations can be previewed on the GTA VI music page.
