An Israeli drone strike hit the Islamic University campus in Gaza City on Sunday, killing three people, according to hospital staff and university sources. Four other Palestinians died in separate attacks across the territory the same day.
Al Shifa Hospital received three bodies and treated eight wounded from the university strike, Hindustan Times reported. Two sources at the Islamic University told Dawn the dead were administrative staff and the injured were students attending classes. Al Jazeera said the three were security guards killed in an air strike, the second attack on the campus within hours.
An earlier drone strike on the same campus injured seven female students, one seriously, Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud said from the scene. "The aftermath was massive," Mahmoud reported. "The bloodstains, the pieces of flesh of the bodies that were torn apart were on the ground."
Gaza's education ministry condemned the strike in a statement, saying students had been present for classes. "The global silence regarding attacks on students and universities serves as encouragement for the continuation of these crimes," the ministry said. It added that 95 percent of Gaza's higher education buildings have been damaged or destroyed since the war began in October 2023, a figure consistent with UNESCO data.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Gaza civil defence spokesman Mahmoud Bassal said four people were killed. Two died in an airstrike in Khan Younis in the south. One was killed in central Deir al-Balah. Another died in a drone strike on al-Rashid Street near Hamad Hospital in the north, according to Dawn and the Palestinian Wafa news agency cited by Al Jazeera.
When asked for comment, the Israeli military told Dawn it was looking into the reports.
A ceasefire has held in Gaza for more than a year, though Israeli attacks have continued. The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza says the death toll since the truce began in October 2025 has reached at least 1,551, with 74,544 killed in total since October 2023. Israel says four soldiers have been killed in the same period.
